Committee Work

Get Involved in AFP-RI by Joining a Committee

AFP-RI is governed by a volunteer board of directors that includes a range of planning committees. These committees carry out the important work of our chapter. To learn more about any committee or to get invlved, please contact the committee chair directly.


Awards and Scholarships Committee   
Chair: Mike Gianfrancesco (Mike@teamfoursight.com)

The Awards and Scholarships Committee meets 4-5 times a year with conference calls as needed to review applications for AFP-RI’s professional development and conference scholarships, as well as nominations for the Fundraising Executive of the Year Award and National Philanthropy Day Awards. Education Committee

The Education Committee plans, organizes, promotes, and evaluates the chapter's year-round professional advancement programs. Committee members meet throughout the year to discuss key topics and potential seasoned presenters.


Governance Committee

The Governance Committee meets throughout the year to discuss potential qualified prospects to join the board and assess who is currently on the board. The committee also evaluates any changes to bylaws or policies of the agency. Contact Mike for additional information or to join this committee.


Membership Committee

The Membership Committee develops and implements strategies to identify and recruit new members and retain existing ones. The Membership Committee conducts outreach to prospective members by mail, e-mail, phone, and in person. Together with the Education Committee, they meet throughout the year to plan programs that will benefit chapter members including networking breakfasts, a holiday gathering and annual meeting. 

National Philanthropy Day  Committee 
 Chair: Amy Gravell (AGravell@BGCPawt.org

Plans and organizes the November National Philanthropy Day breakfast celebration, presenting a prominent philanthropist as a key speaker and providing nonprofits with the opportunity to honor a special individual (or organization) that has made significant contributions as a donor, board member or volunteer. The NPD committee meets throughout the year to help secure event sponsorships, plan marketing and promotional activities, as well as solidify event logistics.

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee works to promote awareness of AFP-RI, National Philanthropy Day, Annual Conference, and the accomplishments of our members within the Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts communities. The committee meets throughout the year.
